- Wire - A metal wire is squeezed around the document spine
- Comb - A plastic comb is put through punched holes and allowed to securely close
- Thermal - A plastic cover with glue is placed around the document and this is heated until set
- Velo - Hard plastic spines are placed along the edge of the document and squeezed shut

Laminating
- Gloss - The traditional type of lamination, this gives a hard wearing glossy sheen.
- Matt - A more tactile finish which reflects less light. Commonly used on restaurant menus.
